We believe that a partnership between parents and therapist is vital and we involve families from point of initial assessment until the point of discharge from our services.

Assessment and observation can take place at your family home and/or your child’s educational setting. There is no set time for assessment, as this is dependent on numerous factors, but most assessments last between 60 and 90minutes. At KaraJones Communication Therapy we like to gain a ‘snapshot’ of your child in different settings. We would always ask your permission before making contact with your child’s education provider.

Intervention or “therapy” is always decided collaboratively. This may take the form of individual sessions and will take place in the most appropriate setting (home, pre-school, school). Sessions typically last 45-60 minutes and this will always include time for liaison with parents and staff. For our individual sessions we recommend that a parent or caregiver is present throughout so that they can observe strategies being used throughout the session. This is because you know your child best (not us) and you spend the most amount of time with them. It is therefore important that you use speech and language strategies as part of your everyday communication with your child to ensure continued improvement.

Regular review of targets to ensure that maximum progress is being made. We aim to involve key people in your child’s life including teachers throughout our journey. Reports can be written upon request.

KaraJones Communication Therapy may suggest that a parent workshop is the most appropriate intervention for your child. We have several parent workshops and your highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist will suggest a specific workshop for you.
